A motorcyclist died when he was hit head-on by a bakkie on the N2 between Durban and Amanzimtoti on Sunday morning, paramedics said.

It is believed that wet weather conditions caused a bakkie carrying churchgoers to lose control and cross the medium into north-bound traffic, said Netcare 911 spokesman Jeff Wicks.

The bakkie then hit the motorcyclist head-on.

"The man's body was pinned beneath the bakkie and he was declared dead at the scene," said Wicks.

One of the churchgoers, a woman, was seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment. - Sapa
