Shortly after they fled a police ambush, a group of suspected serial house robbers stormed into a yard and started shooting randomly at people.

Two people were injured in the process while some of the adults tried to hide a little girl behind them.

This was the evidence in the Pretoria magistrate's court where Enoch Madzizo (a Zimbabwean from Atteridgeville), Lucas Moepi, April Aphane and Martin Mosongwe Malemone and Robert Matubula, addresses unknown, are facing charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Madzizo, Moepi, Aphane and Malemone were arrested in January last year while Matubula was arrested two weeks later.

The accused, alleged to be part of a gang who might be linked to other attacks in the eastern suburbs of Pretoria, have pleaded not guilty.

They are charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances for the attack on Jean Kruger's home in Nevada Street, Faerie Glen, on January 19 last year. He was shot for his cellphone.

In addition, they face charges of being in the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and eight charges of attempted murder.

On Friday, Inspector Tommie Nel testified that task teams were established after several house robberies and hijackings in the Faerie Glen area.
