"It is not true that I have not been at cabinet meetings. It is not true that [KwaZulu-Natal's premier, Lionel Mtshali) is the acting minister of education. Finally, it is not true that I believe in witchcraft".
These denials came on Friday from the newly-appointed education minister for KwaZulu-Natal, Faith Gasa, after allegations that she had not set foot in her Ulundi office for the last two weeks after claims that it had been bewitched.
Gasa said she had missed one cabinet meeting in the week she was appointed in August as it took place before she was sworn in. But the chief director of communications in Mtshali's office, Primrose Nxumalo, said that, according to cabinet minutes, the only meeting Gasa missed was last week's.

Gasa said she was not scared of witchcraft as she believed in God, adding the only thing she feared was poison.
| 'I am not going to start being anti-socia' | On allegations that she was away from the office, Gasa said she had spent the weeks in question doing a "hands-on audit of the education situation on the ground", including opening schools.
Hardly two months in office, Gasa has had two of her official vehicles involved in accidents. But she claimed she was in neither of the vehicles, one a backup car, when the accidents occurred.
Gasa would not deny that she drank alcohol, saying she has had "a glass of wine at a public place or wedding".
"I am not going to start being anti-social. If people want to take advantage of that, then it's a great pity," Gasa said.
Gasa is the third IFP KwaZulu-Natal education minister since 1994. Her predecessors kaNkosi-Shandu was fired for nepotism and Dr Vincent Zulu was sacked after poor matric results.
