Tehran - A top Iranian cleric claims that 70 percent of problems encountered by the country's youth are caused by sexual matters and has urged young people to love God rather than drool over their classmates.
"Love must be cured by love, and if we provide young students with a higher love - that is to say the love of God and the family of the prophet and his successors - the problem will be solved," Hojatoleslam Baradaran said on Wednesday.
Baradaran, who liaises between the education ministry and the Shiite religious centre of Qom, did not say how he arrived at the statistic.

But on the sidelines of a seminar on girls' education, he did point to the perpetual hunt for a friend - whether of the same or opposite sex - as a major preoccupation.
"In girls' schools, extreme friendships between two persons of the same sex or even between a schoolgirl and her teacher is troubling for the spirit and worries young people," he asserted.
The cleric, however, pointed out that Qom's main seminary had published 500 books aimed at informing teachers about the issue.
