More than 100 anti-abortion lobbyists held a protest near the Cape Town Waterfront on Sunday.
The protest, part of the Africa Christian Action's (ACA) 10th anniversary of "life chains" in South Africa, also formed part of International Life Chain, which falls on the first Sunday in October.
Similar life chains were held in Durban on Saturday and Bloemfontein on Sunday.
Lobbyists held aloft posters proclaiming in red letters "Abortion kills babies" and handed out brochures to motorists at intersections.
According to ACA more than 250 000 South African babies lost their lives through termination of pregnancy since abortion on demand was legalised in February 1997.

The group said the number of official abortions had increased from 26 401 in 1997 to 57 451 in 2001.
One of the protesters was Gerhard le Roux, who runs Cape Town's Talita home for abandoned babies. He said his organisation had approached the government on numerous occasions to review the abortion law.
Many of the protesters were from the African Christian Democratic Party. - Sapa
