A baby born with three legs and two penises to an 18-year-old Eastern Cape woman was "doing well" and in a stable condition at the Red Cross Children's hospital in Cape Town on Friday.
The mother, Thobeka Magqi, gave birth to 2,6kg baby Abongile, her firstborn, in the St Elizabeth hospital in Lusiksiki on Thursday morning.
Little Abongile and his mother arrived at Red Cross hospital by air late on Thursday night.
"It was supposed to be a twin delivery," said Eastern Cape Health MEC Bevan Goqwana. "The baby has one head, and around the hip it has two penises. It also has three legs as well as an undeveloped arm.

"There is also no anus."
Red Cross hospital spokesperson Diana Ross said on Friday paediatric surgeons were looking after the baby.
"They will carry out tests and do an assessment before making further plans for surgery," Ross said.
She was unable to say when an operation was likely to be perfomed to rectify the defects.
She said the baby's mother had a good night's sleep on Thursday night after giving birth in the morning and being flown to Cape Town. "We have to look after her as well."
| 'It was supposed to be a twin delivery' | Ross said the surgeons who had examined the baby boy consider his case similar to two previous cases at the hospital where there had been successful outcomes.
On Thursday, Goqwana said the provincial government would foot the bill for the flight to Cape Town and the costs of the operation. - Sapa
