Two men drowned during a baptism in Tokoza, south of Johannesburg, on Sunday morning, Gauteng police said.

Members of the Intaba Esinaye Apostolic Church in Tokoza were conducting the ceremony in the Kliprivier at around 7.30am when two of them were swept away, Inspector Happy Nape said.

One of those who drowned had jumped in to help the other.

Lovuyo Bhuxeke, 42, was still missing.

The body of Vukela Mcahata, 49, was recovered and taken to a government mortuary. - Sapa
