Acting President Kgalema Motlanthe has signed the presidential minute officially dissolving the SABC board, the presidency confirmed on Friday.

This would allow Parliament to proceed with the process of appointing an interim board for the public broadcaster, President Jacob Zuma's spokesperson Thabo Masebe said.

Zuma is currently attending an African Union summit in Libya.

The National Assembly's communications committee on Thursday finalised the list of names for the five-member interim board to be recommended for appointment by Zuma.

These include former MTN executive Irene Charnley, Unisa academic Phillip Mtimkulu, media expert Libby Lloyd, advocate Leslie Sedibe and former communications committee member Suzanne Vos.

The Assembly is expected to approve the list on Tuesday.

Charnley was proposed as board chairperson and Mtimkulu as her deputy.

The board members will serve a six-month term. A permanent board will have to be selected by the committee within that time.

Advertisements for a permanent 12-member board will be sent out within the next two weeks. The committee will start interviewing applicants shortly after. - Sapa
