Lourens Geyer gave his ex-girlfriend some Smirnoff Ice to drink to "cool down", only metres from his mother's mutilated, naked corpse.
And when Lauren Dorey, 21, protested against having to be in the presence of Auriol Geyer's blood-spattered body, Geyer drove her to a nearby Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet and bought her supper, the Johannesburg High Court heard on Wednesday.
Geyer, 25, of Krugersdorp, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murdering his 55-year-old mother in November last year, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
He is alleged to have stabbed his mother to death, then wrapped her body in a blanket and dumped it on an open road in Thabazimbi, Limpopo. He is also charged with stealing her cellphone and Fiat Uno.

In his plea explanation, Geyer agreed that he might have killed his mother after he "snapped" during an argument with her, but said he did not have any recollection of how the murder took place.
Geyer was earlier sent to Sterkfontein Hospital for mental evaluation, and was declared fit to stand trial.
Testifying on Wednesday, Dorey, who has a 17-month-old child by Geyer, told the prosecutor, advocate Nicolette Bell, that the accused called her on November 10 and told her he wanted her and their baby to visit his mother.
Geyer arrived at her house in Silverfields, Krugersdorp, the following morning in his mother's car - the first time Dorey had seen him driving the car. He had a cut on a finger and was struggling to drive.
The couple and their baby slept in the house that night She said Geyer had told her they would be spending that night at his mother's house and then would go on holiday "somewhere".
Asked to describe what state he was in, Dorey said: "He sounded normal on that day."
The couple then drove to Hartbeespoort Dam, where they had lunch and drinks, and later that evening drove to his mother's house in Bloubosrand, Randburg.
