Quick-thinking police foiled a breakout of inmates from a moving prison truck on the N1 while on its way from the Bellville court to Goodwood's C-Max prison.
After seeing in his rear-view mirror on Tuesday that his prisoners were snipping away at the window mesh, the truck driver gathered speed to prevent them from leaping to freedom, and radioed for back-up.
An officer said three Flying Squad cars had caught up with the truck at the Sable Road turn-off near Century City and surrounded it without stopping or slowing down.
With lights flashing, sirens blaring and Flying Squad members' guns trained on the gaping truck window, the high speed convoy made it safely to the prison without any inmates escaping. - Crime Writer.
