Police continued to hunt for 11 awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from Centane police station holding cells in Queenstown.
The escapees have been described as dangerous and the public has been warned not to try to apprehend them.
Police spokesperson Captain Gcinikaya Taleni said the men were to stand trial for rape, murder, theft, housebreaking and assault.
Taleni said the men escaped on Friday when police officers on night duty were attracted by a noise in one of the cells by a prisoner.
An officer went to investigate and unlocked the cell but was overpowered when he went inside. He was then locked in the cell.
