The South African cricketers are going through a frustrating phase as they prepare for their final first-round game of the ICC Champions Trophy on Friday.

Their opponents are Kenya, who were beaten by 29 runs on Tuesday by the West Indies.

With Allan Donald now also injured, along with Nicky Boje and Jonty Rhodes, the problem is who to bring into the team.

Boje is definitely out, Donald is doubtful but Rhodes is likely to play, all of which makes captain Shaun Pollock worried about the balance of the team.

"Kenya may not be the strongest team in the world but the way they have been playing in recent games does give an indication that they can put up a fight," Pollock said.

Rhodes's injured hand is still not 100% while Donald's old ankle injury has flared up again. He was to have had a cortisone injection two days ago but decided against it.

The three players who sat out last week's first game against the West Indies - Makhaya Ntini, Justin Ontong and Dale Benkenstein - could all be pressed into action against Kenya.

It's the only chance the selectors have to see what they can do in Sri Lankan conditions.

While they know a lot about Ntini and Benkenstein's abilities, Ontong needs to make an impression in this game as he may not have another chance on the tour.

If South Africa win their group they go through to meet the winner of Pool 2 which comprises India, Zimbabwe and England. Zimbabwe play England on Wednesday.

Squads:

South Africa: Shaun Pollock (capt), Mark Boucher, Herschelle Gibbs, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis, Alan Dawson, Lance Klusener, Jonty Rhodes, Dale Benkenstein, Boeta Dippenaar, Alan Donald, Makhaya Ntini, Justin Ontong.
