Colombo - Thursday's decision day for Jonty Rhodes as South Africa prepare for their final pool 3 ICC Champions Trophy game against Kenya at the Premadasa Stadium on Friday.

The 33-year-old Natalian will have a fitness test to determine whether he can play.

Rhodes played a minor role in Wednesday's practice at the Police Park outside Colombo, preferring to protect his injured hand.

The Natalian hasn't looked himself since the injury, sustained in the Morocco Cup, reared its ugly head here against the West Indies. He is normally in the thick of things at net sessions.

While the rest of the batsmen have had full-scale net sessions, Rhodes has been seen on the outfield doing fielding practice and catching with a soft ball. "Jonty's condition will be reviewed today (on Thursday)," Eric Simons said after the four-hour practice session.

But there was some good news for the South Africans from fast bowler Allan Donald, who said he had had his ankle strapped and was ready for action.

"It's an injury I have to live with as it comes and goes. I was to have had a cortisone injection the other day, but I believe the local doctor pulled out of doing it because he was not certain if he was going to insert it in the right spot." said Donald.

"But it did not bother me as I decided to have the ankle strapped and I feel perfect at the moment and I can bowl flat out without any problems."

With injuries being a problem, the South Africans have not settled on their final XI for Friday's game.

But they have got Makhaya Ntini, Dale Benkenstein and Justin Ontong in readiness.

Chief of selectors, Omar Henry, said there's a temptation to press all three of them into action. "We need to see how well they cope in these conditions."

Kenya, who lost to the West Indies by 29 runs two days ago, are unlikely to tamper with their team for the South African game.

Steve Tikolo, their captain, said: "We have finally found a combination and may just stick with it."

South Africa: Shaun Pollock (capt), Mark Boucher, Herschelle Gibbs, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis, Alan Dawson, Lance Klusener, Jonty Rhodes, Dale Benkenstein, Boeta Dippenaar, Alan Donald, Makhaya Ntini, Justin Ontong
