Lauderhill, Florida - A delegation from this south Florida city will deliver a bid proposal to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) this week in the hopes of making the United States a host nation for the 2007 World Cup.

If the US plan is accepted by the WICB and International Cricket Council (ICC), this suburb 40km north of Miami would host matches in a cricket complex set to open in late 2006, the Sun-Sentinel newspaper reported.

City officials were to meet WICB officials in Barbados on Thursday and watch a one-day match between England and the West Indies, already set as the 2007 World Cup host.

The WICB and ICC plan a site visit here on June 7 and 8 before match venues are named July 4 and a programme is announced on July 12.

"They want to make sure we can deliver what we say we can," Lauderhill spokesperson Leslie Tropepe told the newspaper. "For cricketers living here, it would be a huge honour to see World Cup cricket played here.

"For some, it would be a dream come true."

Twelve bids are expected for eight host berths, including those of Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Guyana, Grenada, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Kitts-Nevis and the US group. - Sapa-AFP
