In an attempt to strengthen the bowling attack, Alan Dawson, Charl Langeveldt and Andre Nel have been included in the South African cricket team to tour Pakistan later this month.

The South Africans leave for Pakistan on Sunday to play three one-day internationals and three Test matches.

Dawson has been included for the one-day internationals only and his place in the Test team will be taken by Gary Kirsten.

In addition, Paul Adams will travel with the squad but will not be considered for selection for the three ODIs. He will, however, be in contention for a place in the Test team.

'Goolam has provided tremendous support for the team'
Out of the squad who toured England are Thami Tsolekile, Charl Willoughby, Dewald Pretorius, Morne van Wyk and Monde Zondeki, but with the exception of Willoughby, the rest have been included in the South African A squad to play their Sri Lankan counterparts from September 26.

Graeme Smith will once again captain the side with Mark Boucher appointed vice-captain.

Eric Simons is the coach, but Vincent Barnes replaces Corrie van Zyl as assistant coach for the tour.

A decision on a permanent appointment will be made after the tour.

Tim Southey has been appointed as the new national team manager. He takes over from Goolam Rajah who served with the team from 1994.

In welcoming Southey to the UCB fold, UCB CEO Gerald Majola also thanked Rajah for his loyal service.

"Goolam has provided tremendous support for the team over the years and we thank him for that. We hope he will continue to use his extensive logistical skills in supporting all our touring teams from the UCB offices," said Majola.

Southey, 52, has extensive business management expertise. His experience has been with reputable South African corporations, including Woolworths, and the financial services industry. For the past four years he has been employed in the management team of a leading law firm.

"I am honoured and excited to have the opportunity to work with the national cricket squad and coach Eric Simons," said Southey.

"My purpose and mission is not only to provide the operational and logistics support required but also to add value from an overall management perspective."
