Annaba, Algria - French-based professionals Nassim Akrour and Djamel Belmadi grabbed two goals each as Algeria moved a step closer to a place at the 2004 African Nations Cup finals with a 4-1 home win over Chad on Friday.

It was a second successive win in group 12 of the qualifiers for the Algerians, who won their opening match away at Namibia last month.

Algeria are the runway favourites in the three-team group, one of the easiest in the qualifying campaign.

Their comfortable victory came despite having defender Slimane Raho sent off after just 25 minutes for retaliation after a tackle.

French-born Akrour put Algeria into the lead at half-time before Marseille's Belmadi marked his first international in more than a year with two goals.

Akrour added the fourth from the penalty spot. Chad's goal was scored by substitute Naama Naay from a corner kick. Chad have yet to win a match in Nations Cup qualifiers since they first entered the preliminaries more than a decade ago.
