New York - Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake will not have to appear in court over the exposure of Jackson's right breast at the Super Bowl's half-time show, after legal action was dropped Tuesday by an American woman, it was reported on Tuesday.

Terri Carlin, an American bank employee from Knoxville, Tennessee, had begun a class action suit claiming that she and "millions of others" suffered "outrage, anger, embarrassment and serious injury".

However, following the submission of her complaint to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) during the past week, Carlin has done an about turn and dropped action.

Carlin was seeking damages that should not exceed "the gross annual revenues of each defendant for the last three years" - which signalled hundreds of millions of dollars, experts said.

Now she has expressed the hope that the FCC will prevent such scenes on US television in the future.

Carlin, 47, was offended when singer Justin Timberlake wrenched off Jackson's leather bodice to reveal her right breast, an act for which both Jackson and Timberlake apologised. - Sapa-dpa
