Vilnius - A member of parliament in Lithuania has asked Sweden to return dozens of cannon seized during a battle in the 17th century, the Baltic News Service reported on Tuesday.
Valdemaras Valkiunas submitted his request to the Swedish embassy in Vilnius that 60 cannon removed from Birzai Castle in northern Lithuania in 1625 be returned as they are of "immeasurable" value to the Baltic state.
The cannon are currently on display at the Swedish Army Museum in Stockholm, Valkiunas claims.
"It's true that he has approached us. Last week he came to the embassy and handed over a letter which we will send to Sweden," the Swedish embassy's first secretary, Teresa Carlsson-Szlezak, told the German Press Agency dpa.
