The Comrades Marathon, out on a limb due to the sudden introduction of the Indian Premier League cricket circus to South Africa, has extended its entry deadline for the first time in the event's history.
The new closing date is now 6pm on Monday, April 6.
The Comrades Marathon Association said the decision followed a flood of inquiries from runners wondering if the race was still on.
The answer is yes: it will run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban on May 24, the same day as the IPL final in Johannesburg.

This disrupted the race's organisation and led to rumours that it would be cancelled.

The CMA had officially closed entries for the race on Tuesday March 31. So far it is processed 9700 entries, significantly fewer than in 2008.
