Windhoek - Namibia said on Wednesday it will not abandon a market-driven approach to land redistribution by going the route of neighbouring Zimbabwe, where whites were often violently evicted from their land.
Recent remarks by a minister praising Zimbabwe's land programme sparked concern among white farmers who said the process could only succeed if it was executed in an orderly manner.
A government statement on Wednesday distanced itself from those comments made during a trip to Zimbabwe in May.
"There has been a total misunderstanding on the statement made by the Deputy Minister of Lands and Resettlement, Isak Katali, during his recent visit to Zimbabwe," a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said.

"Once more the government of the Republic of Namibia remains fully committed to its land reform programme that is in accordance with our country's constitution and relevant laws."
Namibia currently follows a willing-buyer, willing-seller policy and legal expropriation with what the constitution calls "just" compensation.
So far only one farm has been expropriated with compensation, while negotiations are under way concerning two others.
