Port Louis - Mauritius' central bank governor Rundheersing Bheenick told Reuters on Wednesday he saw no reason to step aside, shortly after a majority of board members at the Bank of Mauritius called on him to go.
"I don't see any reason why I should step down. I don't think I have done anything wrong. I have done the job for which I was hired and I don't think this is the kind of time when you want the bank to be headless," Bheenick said.
He said the bank's board had become "very dysfunctional" because of differences of opinion over management powers and board powers. He said he had raised the issue with the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
