1.50pm: Good afternoon and welcome, again, to SuperSport Park, for this good website's live coverage of the ICC Champions Trophy match between South Africa and England. South Africa are cock-a-hoop having beaten New Zealand comprehensively here on Thursday, and England are chuffed - and not a little bit surprised, if some of them are totally honest - to have rolled over Sri Lanka at the Wanderers on Friday night. The toss will happen in a bit. In other news, today I and telly commentator/writer Neil Manthorp celebrate our birthdays today. We share this day with Brendon McCullum and Duncan Fletcher, both of whom haven't called to offer their wishes yet. No doubt they will shortly, although Brendon looks a little busy at the Wanderers right now. I'll be back after the toss.

2pm: Andrew Strauss calls "heads", England win the toss and decide to bat. His fellow Joburg boy, Biff, says he is happy to chase at SuperSport Park and is confident in his side's batting. To that end, Herschelle Gibbs has recovered from his rib injury and is back in the team, a straight swap for Hashim Amla at the top of the order. England have Ravi Bopara in for Matt Prior, while Eoin Morgan - the Irishman - will take the gloves. This is a big game for South Africa - win it and they make sure of a semifinal, although they might just shade it on run rate. I'll keep an eye on the Wanderers as that could play a part in deciding semi spots.

Ivor S has no idea. Its the same as Mark Page calling for a runner when he was way ahead of Bruce Fordyce in the Comrades marathon and started cramping on Poly shorts. If you remember he started walking and Bruce came passed him, they shook hands and it was all over. That's sport. Prepare yourself properly and you won't be caught out.

Im very sadened by the below par performance of the proteas. Im a very sore losser when it comes to my country & i honestly had a sleepless night after the game. I dont want to point fingers at the coach nor captain but certainly the team were far far far from there best. I still believe they the best team overal on paper & field but this time round they missed out ONCE AGAIN, CHOKING.... like the saying goes: "A miss is as good as a mile" Well done to England, they were clinical on the day.

For ex-pat South Africans, this report is total gobbledy-gook. How about some civilised cricket reporting without nicknames & nonsense? Very frustrating.

Nothing's going to change (and by that I mean improve) until we get rid of Mickey Mouse (the King of stating the obvious) and take the captaincy away from Brainboy Biff. He'll bat even better then.

We HAD a great coach, but CSA had to fire him for a Disney character due to a good PowerPoint presentation. "Hey, Mickey, we need another PP presentation to recall why you should be coach..."

Although Biff scored a century, I think he was selfish and thought more about his own achievements than that of the team. On Strauss not allowing him a runner, although I am a ardent SA supporters, I would have done the same and not allow a runner. Remember he was getting cramps, and was not injured. There is a team doctor, a physio and many moons of experience in the team and they should have dealt with the situation better and should have been a lot more pro-active.

@ ex SA. Thank GOD you are "ex SA". @ JP.....What on earth did you guys think. To take a three month break and that it would be like riding a bicycle. All the other countries were playing in tournaments before ICC. And personally, I must agree with others that you are perhaps only a test player. (Now is you time to prove us all wrong) @ Sportsman - I know what you mean, but I would rather cheer for Pakistan or Sri Lanka. @ All others - I think the BOYS were watching too many Bafana Bafana games.

Graeme Smith was magnificent, down the line, no accross the line shots, and lots of discipline and concentration. And an idiotn signing himself "Anonymous" want to change the captain?? Amazing.

Herschell, on the other hand, once again looked like a present day "Master Blaster" (perhaps even better than Viv) and then plays a shot when he knew he could never have complete control over. Hersch, that was a crazy shot selection. If you had stayed our openers would have reached the target by 48 overs. And you know it.

Jacques tried to hook a ball with both feet off the ground, a la Brain Lara. Another crazy shot - from a class act like Kallis? Unbelievable.

JP Duminy seems to be in a sort of "panic mode". Another great talent who certainly has not performed to potential. His shot was one you won't find in any coaching manual.(Hey JP, how's Ashwell batting right now?)

My biggest disppaointment was Straus denying Smith a runner! The match was as good as over, but Straus played "by the rules"! I'm glad he is not our captain.

Albie Morkel? When at Eastern's Albie bowled a beaut of a swinger, which he seems to have lost. Trying to bowl too fast? Bowl within yourself, to a length and line and you'll get wickets.

Dale Steyn has gone completey bonkers! No swing, no length, no line? He'a a hell of lot better than he has performed.

Batsmen make games safe, but bowlers win games. I felt sorry for Smith, he must have thought the guys have been "got at"!

But - the Protea's are still the best in the world for my money, the bowlers need a lot more discipline, the batsmen need to make better shot selections. The Proteas will win more than they lose - make no mistake.

Hi Biff
Its time you took some responsibility for this mess. The to you made is not what its all about. You have failed SA and I am concerned that either you are playing for the Administrators or for the Bookies.

Just look at all the games you have captained and the results. They are shocking. Somebody is being paid.

Biff knows zilsch about strategy when it comes to his bowlers. He uses the same recipe all the time, and all the teams know exactly how and who will be bowling to them, when.

So.ooooo predictable, and you knows what happens with such teams, once the opposition has worked them out !
