New Delhi - Cricketer Gagandeep Singh, who recently played for India in an under-19 series in Australia, was killed after being hit by a stray bullet during an altercation outside a shop, police said Saturday.

Singh was shot after a fight broke out outside a roadside eatery in the north Indian town of Meerut late Friday night, Press Trust of India reported. The shop owner was also killed, PTI reported, quoting the local Inspector General of Police Javed Akhtar.

Akhtar said the alleged shooter had been arrested, PTI added.

Singh was visiting Meerut to play in a local tournament, PTI said. - Sapa-AP
