Electricity utility Eskom has been plunged into further chaos with the resignation of its chairman Bobby Godsell.

Last week, it was alleged that CEO Jacob Maroga resigned. But not so.

IOL asked its readers: Godsell's decision to resign from Eskom was as a result of:

Of the 1 065 people who participated in the 42 percent (445 votes) said "meeting with Zuma", while 30 percent (326 votes) said "his own decision" and while 28 percent (294 votes) said "pressure from the BMF"

Here are some of the comments posted online:

Clearly questionable competency and integrity on the part of certain individuals, excluding Mr Godsell. No doubt political pressure as well. You did the right thing Bobby.

    Sydney:
what is a chairman of the board compare to a CEO?Chairmen/women of different boards of SA Parastals and SOE's are nothing but seatwarmers who chair useless board meetings.CEO's are in forefront of implementation, they battle wind and fire and as such Bobby 's depature is no skin off my nose,is immaterial.

Let's not forget that Eskom is a parastatal after all. One does beg the question though - if the chairman is "forced" to leave then should he go with the entire board... The guillotine can't just fall on one individual. Come let's clean this up!

    Spikiri:
I believe it was the BMF. They were on national news appearing super confident that Maroga was going to stay. Lo and behold, he has. Racism aside people, put it down to money. This man was paid bonuses (by his board!) while our national electricity supply crumbled. They all failed us. And now they are forcing us to pay more to fix it.

    Tumisi:
Well, I think Godsell has his own reasons and the fact that he blundered, he thought the only measure was to resign to normalise tensions he had with Eskom executives. Let's get the points right here. Godsell is the one who motivated Maroga's 20% increase to nearly 5m annually. And due to his lack of management skills, this old idiot again turns around to fire Maroga for incompetency and lie to both the media and public - How stupid can he bite his own neck like this. This is a true reflection of lazy people who hide behind their powerful positions. In fact the whole board should have been dissolved except Maroga.

    CJR:
I do not care who has resigned or stayed but what we need is the power kept on and not a power struggle. I have a suggestion that they put the VAT up to finance Eskom instead of putting up the electricity by 45% for the next 3 years. I also think that VAT should support the SABC with the 1% because everyone pays VAT and those people who do not pay income tax or those that duck paying tax and have TV's will also have to pay, not just the taxpayers.

    James:
To be honest the whole board should resign in my opinion. White, black, pink and green. They are responsible as a whole for our situation and as a collective group they should get kicked out.

    Matt B:
regardless of colour it is just strange that no investigation was performed and Govt intervention seems to have taken place- at the highest levels... one thing is a blessing - that when the last person is ready to leave they wont need to turn the lights off, as they probably wont be working anyway..
