 Eric's attackers put to sleep

Two pitbull terriers, removed from their owners after the attack on the Cape's oldest male baboon, have been put down by the SPCA after failing behavioural tests.

The two owners of the dogs were arrested after the attack on Eric, a 20 year old baboon who had formerly been the alpha male of the Slangkop troop on July 21.

Eric had sustained serious injuries to his face and legs after the dogs attacked him while he was walking in Kommetjie Road, near Ocean View. He has since made a complete recovery and been re-introduced to his troop.

The SPCA's Allan Perrins said although the parents of the two youngsters, arrested for the incident, had requested that they no longer wanted the dogs and that they be put to sleep, it had not been communicated to his organisation.
