French co-driver Henri Magne was killed and driver Joan "Nani" Roma of Spain was injured on Monday when Roma lost control of his Mitsubishi in the final stage of the Rally of Morocco, race organisers said.

Magne, 53, died at about 1030 GMT in the accident on a rocky track in the early stages of the 311-kilometre Ourazazate stage in southern Morocco, a local Moroccan official confirmed.

Roma, member of the Team Repsol Mitsubishi Ralliart, was only slightly hurt, the official said.

Magne was an experienced co-driver who had partnered the likes of rally drivers Iroshi Masuoka, Bruno Saby and Jean-Pierre Fontenay. - Sapa-AFP
