A 48-year-old man was arrested after a 10-year-old girl surprised him as he allegedly tried to rape her four-year-old sister in a Delmas township, Mpumalanga police said on Monday.
According to police spokesperson Superintendent Abie Khoabane, the girls' father was angered by the incident and burnt the suspect's home down. He was arrested and would face arson charges.
The four-year-old girl was playing outside her home when she was lured into the suspect's home across the street. Her sister was sent to call her in for lunch when she heard the four-year-old screaming.
On entering the man's home she allegedly found him standing above her half-naked sister with his pants down.

The girl then informed her mother who confronted the man along with other members of the community.
After a brief struggle, he was taken to the police station and charged with attempted rape.
Khoabane said the suspect as well as the girl's father were to appear in the Delmas magistrate's court soon. - Sapa
