The Western Cape and the North West ANC provincial structures could be disbanded when the ruling party's national executive committee meets on Friday.
This if the majority of NEC members agree that factionalism and leadership problems were crippling the two provinces.
Calls for the disbandment of the Western Cape PEC have been made within the ruling party and its allies, especially the ANC youth league and the SACP in the province.
They have accused the provincial executive committee, which was stripped of its powers last year and led by chairman Mcebisi Skwatsha, of failing to instill unity in the organisation and of neglecting branches.

The election of the current provincial executive was mired in factionalism from the start when members who had complained about credentials used to exclude certain branches, held an alternative meeting in Langa.
Many of them would later form Cope and win several by-elections when the ANC's provincial executive bungled the registration of its ward candidates.
This gave the then fledgling party its first taste of power even as the candidates who won their wards stood as independents.
