 No stone left unturned in stolen baby probe

Tygerberg Hospital may on Monday be able to piece together how a two-week-old baby boy was snatched from a maternity ward without its nurses or security guards noticing.

Police have been questioning scores of hospital employees since the baby, identified only as BZ Ncumani, went missing from the ward during a visiting hour on Friday.

Health department spokesperson Mark van der Heever said managers at Tygerberg Hospital had since Friday been gathering information and would today "have a clearer understanding of what happened".

The possibility that hospital employees may be involved in the baby's disappearance has not been ruled out.

Van Der Heever said there were no surveillance cameras in the wards, the only cameras being positioned at the entrances to the hospital. Nurses and guards were supposed to patrol the wards.
