As the coffee cups clinked and the cellphones rang, Glenn Agliotti and police intelligence boss Mulangi Mphego sat chatting about the giant "consultancy fee" the Kebbles were paying to the self-confessed druglord.
While Agliotti kept assuring Mphego that "you are my brother" and that he would channel information about drug deals to the police, Mphego questioned Agliotti about why the "Nas-comm" (national commissioner Jackie Selebi) was mentioned in recorded telephone conversations.
"I used Jackie's name... I shouldn't have..." Agliotti said, trying to convince Mphego that the US$1.5-million was not going to Selebi but to him.
The discussion took place in August 2003 and the video recording, made by Mphego, was played to the court hearing Selebi's corruption trial.

It is the second to be viewed by the court, following a January 2008 recording in which Agliotti makes allegations that the Scorpions were part of a conspiracy to bring down Selebi.
In the 2003 video, Agliotti raises similar allegations, saying that former NPA boss Bulelani Ngcuka was preparing to go into the private sector and use his marriage to Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, then Minerals and Energy Minister, as an advantage.
He described the business links surrounding the Kebbles and how he was, at one point, asked to speak to convicted fraudster Schabir Shaik to "see what he has on Bulelani (Ngcuka)". This did not take place.
Discussing various deals and fall-outs, he said: "It's all about money at the end of the day".
In the end, Agliotti describes a looming drug deal - involving Mandrax powder from India - and promises to give it up to Mphego.
"I want that," Mphego said.
The 2003 video followed heated legal argument over a new (third) video recording, the existence of which was revealed by the City Press at the weekend.
Judge Meyer Joffe was outraged by this secret video - which took the state by surprise - saying: "someone is clearly trying to influence proceedings in this trial".
However, he allowed Selebi's defence team to question Agliotti about it, as it promised to support Selebi's claims that Agliotti was a liar.
