England cricket captain Paul Collingwood was spotted partying at a Cape Town strip club before his side crashed to a World Twenty20 defeat against South Africa.

In the defeat at Newlands on Sunday night, Collingwood misjudged a crucial catch off Al-bie Morkel when he was on 14. Man of the match Morkel went on to hit a crucial 43. Later Collingwood was out for a duck in England's 19-run defeat.

Collingwood was spotted at Mavericks Revue Bar at around midnight on Friday night. The cricket fan who caught him out claims the captain was still there at 3am.

'This was the day before the South Africa game'
"It wouldn't have been a problem if he was letting off steam after a match but this was the day before the South Africa game," the witness said.

Another guest at the club told how he had bought the star a drink. He said he had quizzed Collingwood about Friday's defeat to Australia and told him: "You'd better win on Sunday."

"No, no, definitely," he had replied.

Last night a spokesperson for the England team admitted that Collingwood had been at the club but insisted he had left after one drink.
