University of the Free State vice-chancellor Jonathan Jansen will come face to face with the ANC Youth League president Julius Malema today as the Reitz four saga rages on, triggering more ugly spats between political parties.
Malema is leading a youth league delegation, which includes the controversial Free State leader Thabo Meeko, who has demanded that Jansen resign for announcing the re-admission of the four white students who humiliated five black workers.
University spokeswoman Lacea Loader confirmed that the youth league had requested the meeting with Jansen. Continues Below ↓
The furore over the youth league's comments intensified yesterday, with the DA lodging a second complaint at the Equality Court against Meeko for saying Jansen should be "shot and killed because he is a racist".
Meeko blamed the media for misquoting him, and has accused the DA of hiding behind "technical" issues.
The ANC Youth League backed Meeko and said he had been on record saying that Jansen should be removed because he was a "racist and criminal".
DA spokesman on higher education Wilmot James said Meeko's comments incited "physical harm" on Jansen.
"The ANC Youth League will now have to explain itself in court," said Wilmot who called for Meeko to be suspended from the league.
The Cope Student Movement also blasted the ANC for its "vitriolic" attack and commended Jansen's decision.
Jansen's decision has apparently divided the university, and sparked an emotive debate that has dragged in Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande who accused the vice-chancellor of being insensitive and failing to consult. Jansen has since agreed to consult widely.

So what WILL Malema say about the Rietz four saga?? this has been one of the main headlines on IOL news for two weeks now. Has anyone here realised that sometimes the news is all about sensationalism and that the press is instigating negative comments about this country. The only news articles on IOL that are open for comments are ones that are controversial and provoke the public into giving a reaction. And they are all more or less about the same topic... government. Think about it, people. IOL gives a controversial headine that is open to comment and all the comments become aruguments about the state of the country, corruption, black v. white, etc. They all boil down to the same thing. If only we all put positive energy into this country the same way you all put enough energy into complaining on this site, perhaps something would change...

Before accusing TM of racism, perhaps you should have taken the time to read anonymous's comments. If anyone is racist, it is him. "Whites are sick tottaly sick"
As a liberal, tolerant and open-minded south african, brought up to respect people of all colour and creed (oh, who also happens to be white) I take major offence. Soil Boy, do your research before making unjust commentary.

@LM, atleast anonymous is trying to communicate in "your language". Not fully understanding "your language" doesn't equate to "another Malema wanna be"
Your comment clearly shows the extent at which racism is embeded in your heart and soul, the fact that one cannot speak or write "your language" fluently or articulately as you might expect him/her, doesn't make that person less knowledgeable or less educated.
Your reconciliation or atleast willingness to undertand black race leaves a lot to be desired..mybe you can start by learning one or two african languages...like us knowing "your language"

Its not a bad idea perhaps to ask the Reitz four to complete their studies at the University of Zimbabwe instead of imposing them in a SA university. I a certain the Zim government would gladly take them as that can come in handy in assisting their foreign currency challenge there. I am sure their subjects can be provided at UZ unless they all specialised in Afrikaans which is an unknown language in Zimbabwe.

I watched the video with my daughter who attended university as well and she told me this is common practise at the initiation of the first year students. The fact that it was done to mature people does warrant some punishment, but at the same time I did not see anyone doing any of the activities with a gun held against their heads.

Malema might able to ask the educated man if it was as sample to forgive had this happened to his mother or is it just some low lifes cleaners that this happened to. Who actually gets to decide who forgive who in this situation, the vice-councellor doesn't even request but impose the forgiveness on the poor ladies.
Secondly i really find the justice system in the country two faced, If a person get 18 month for crossing a red robot, a person get 18 month for stealing a worse in a supermarket and a white person get 18 month for brutaly killing a black person. Some are even forgiven just like that...mmmmm

Dear Anonymous
Let me help you with your e-mail.
It has to be "these idiots" for the plural or "this idiot" for the singular.
This idiots must be punished; maybe this will make an example of how all of them (whites) will be punished should they continue to behave like evil spirited animals. Can you imagine how their nannies and helpers are treated at home.
Whites are sick tottaly sick.
Totally has 2 l's not 2 t's.
Oom Jislaaik maybe you should open up a
vasity and teach your fellow whites some manners and stop telling us nonsense; we are in onother centuary stop telling us about the 70's
Varsity - must have a "r", onother actually starts with an "a", and century does not have an "a"
Just a friendly grammar lesson from a "WHITE" to another Malema wanna be. By the way I treat my domestic worker with the respect she deserves.

Anonymous who wants whites to be punished - why do you say whites are sick? What sickness do whites have? What do you think needs to happen to whites?

@Stix - you clearly have strong opinions. Where do you feel whites belong, when you refer to MK and APLA putting whites where they belong?
