Mabhuti Khenyeza has been kicked out of the Bafana Bafana squad after reporting to camp a day later than scheduled.

The Mamelodi Sundowns striker was compelled to arrive at the national team's Johannesburg hotel on Sunday, but instead pitched up only on Monday afternoon after apparently ignoring telephone calls from the team's management.

South Africa play their first match since Carlos Alberto Parreira returned as coach - against Japan on Saturday in Port Elizabeth - and the Brazilian is said to have unequivocally told Khenyeza his attitude would not be tolerated.

It has been established that Khenyeza stayed in his hometown Durban following Sundowns' match there against Golden Arrows on Saturday and did not travel back to Johannesburg with his club. Instead he stayed on for another day, returning this morning and heading to Sundowns' training base at Chloorkop.

From there, club administrator Trott Moloto ordered him to report to the Bafana camp. Moloto accompanied the player to the team hotel for a meeting with Parreira, after which Khenyeza was ordered out of the squad. He has been replaced by Richard Henyekane, the Arrows striker.

This is the second time this year that Khenyeza is kicked out of the squad for ill-discipline. Having been included in the Fifa Confederations Cup preliminary team in May, he failed to show up for medicals, citing a family commitment, prompting then coach Joel Santana to drop him.

They are professional players, and the penalty for not conducting oneself professionally is to get fired. Finish and Klaar. It is about time Bafana Bafana gets whipped into shape. There is no place for prima donnas in the squad. If Mcarthy cannot show up on time then the same penalty should apply as well. It is unthinkable that when your country calls you would show such disdain and disrespect to the flag, and therefore its citizens, your team mates as well as the sport itself. It is time to bring decency back into everything we do.

@Kufa I am not sure I understand your point. Khenyeza was called to play for his country and was told to arrive at 8pm on Sunday. He failed to do so, not for the first time, but for the second time. When they tried to contact him, he turned his phone off and so they could not get hold of him. Yes, McCarthy's commitment needs to be questioned, but you cannot then arrive at a conclusion that each player should do as they please because McCarthy does as he pleases and still makes the team. In fact, Khenyeza is not even the star of the team, and is replaces by a far better player in Henyekane. McCarthy's punishment for not rocking up was international oblivion. I am not a fan and would want him to be excluded, but he was punished for not showing up. You now want Khenyeza not to be punished, and yet you see no hypocrisy in your demands? You are the hypocrit

At least Jabu Pule had talent: @shadyo Why blame the whole team when only one player did not pitch? You are being unfair since the majority of players reported on time, including the better players from Sundowns (Mpela). When called, Hanyekane jetted out immediately despite the disappointment of being missed out for Khenyeza in the first place.

Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy! The same Parreira has recalled Benni McCarthy back into Bafana. It is well known that Santana never dropped Benni and Nassif Morris rather they refused to join Bafana Bafana citing a number of reasons, including club commitments or family commitments respectively. Now it is well and good to exclude Khenyeza for not actually refusing to join the team, but for arriving late...wow! That is so so fresh, coming from the fans who have been crying loud for the return of Benni and Nasiff.

I was in same flight (1 time) with Khenyeza from Durban on Sunday we departed Durban at 19:15 arriving in Joburg at 20:15 so if he wanted to join Bafana on Sunday he would have done that. I think a call up does not mean anything to the man maybe they should forget about calling him up next time. Stop doing the Chuene on us.

Richard Henyekane is a much better player that Khenyeza, and perhaps justice was done. Henyekane is more of a complete layer who can create his own chances and feed off other players while Khenyeza is more of a poacher mostly relying on speed and luck than skill. It amazes me that someone with so little talent can make himself so important. I hope he never gets called again. Fact remains that there are many better strikers than he is, especially since the other spoilt rotten egg is back in the team

this is sport not politics. He was not dropped, which was the correct action.

This is a blessing in disguise for me. I would have selected R. Henyekane ahead of Khenyeza from the first place.
