Mozambique midfielder Elias 'Domingues' Pelembe shone as SuperSport United defeated Maritzburg United 3-1 on Wednesday to take a one-point lead in the South African Premiership.
Pelembe scored twice during the second half after creating the first goal for Morgan Gould as SuperSport recovered smartly from a three-goal hiding by Free State Stars last weekend.
The Mozambican was deprived of a hat-trick in the KwaZulu-Natal city of Maritzburg by the woodwork as the defending champions climbed to 31 points, one more than Ajax Cape Town.
Lynch Pule levelled in the opening half as Maritzburg sought another prized scalp after outclassing Ajax last weekend, but the understrength relegation candidates tired dramatically in the closing stages.
