After upsetting log-leaders Ajax Cape Town at the weekend, relegation-threatened Maritzburg United threaten to do the same to defending champions SuperSport United at Woodburn Stadium in the KwaZulu-Natal capital on Wednesday (3.30pm kick-off).
Though the 2-0 victory over the Urban Warriors at the same venue on Saturday did not improve Maritzburg's position at the bottom end of the Absa Premiership standings, their morale would have been lifted immensely. What's more, they scored two great goals in the game.
"We needed that win badly," said coach Gordon Igesund on Monday.
"We had been threatening in previous matches, but suffered red cards and conceded penalties needlessly.

"We have a tough schedule of matches coming up, but it's one where players will naturally lift themselves.

"After SuperSport, we have to face Chiefs away, Celtic at home and Sundowns at home - all tough, but interesting matches for us."
The under-pressure coach has striker Brice Aka back from an automatic two-match suspension, but midfielders Tony Tsabedze and Sam Ndlovu can't be fielded on Wednesday in terms of an agreement Maritzburg struck with SuperSport when signing the duo on loan from the Pretoria-based outfit at the beginning of the season.
Tsabedze will be particularly disappointed at being sidelined after he scored one of those two memorable goals at the weekend, the other coming from Durban-born defender Gary Goldstone.
Igesund also has central defender Siphiwe Mkhonza trying to get past a concussion suffered in training last week.
"We'll have to reshuffle once again," added Igesund.
"But the players are in good spirits. Against SuperSport, we'll have to watch for their quick long balls and they are also good at set-pieces.
"We know how they play.
