A man who was allegedly involved in a scam used to defraud 32 people looking for work in the South African Army was given bail on Monday.
"Nelson Marole, 25, was given R5 000 bail when he appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court. He will appear again in court on December 9," said police spokesperson Captain Leonard Hlathi.
Marole allegedly distributed professional-looking pamphlets in July, stating the government wanted to recruit and train 15 000 new officers every year until 2010.
Hlathi said a total of 32 people who responded to the adverts later received messages instructing them to deposit R200 in an Absa account.

After depositing the money, the group was told to wait for a bus to pick them up on September 7 but it never arrived.
The matter was then reported to the police and Marole was arrested last Thursday when he tried to withdraw money from the account. - Sapa
