A 48-year-old man was killed in a mob justice attack in Zingcuka village outside Centane, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.
Captain Jackson Manatha said community members descended on the man at noon on Sunday after he was allegedly seen attacking another villager with an axe.
"The community was fed up with his actions. It is alleged that the suspect [Jongikhaya Solani] had attacked two elderly women three months back but fled from police and hid in Willowvale," said
Manatha.
The man was never caught following the attack on the two women and when community members saw him attacking another villager on Sunday, they allegedly attacked him with sticks, killing him in the process.
