A gambler was wounded when 10 armed men stormed into the Meropa Casino, opened fire and made off with an undisclosed amount of money, Limpopo police said on Sunday.
Superintendent Ronel Otto said the men, armed with AK-47 assault rifles and 9mm pistols, overpowered a security guard at the gate and
entered the casino, in Polokwane, after 9pm on Saturday.
"They proceeded to the casino area where they overpowered more security guards. They then forced their way to the office of one of the managers, but could not access the main safe," Otto said.
Instead, the robbers took money from the tills at cashier pay points.

"The suspects placed the money in zipper bags and fled. On their way, they shot a member of the public in the chest. He is in hospital in a serious, but stable condition," said Otto.
She said the men also tried to force open a door leading to an automated teller machine, but failed.
They made their getaway in a white Toyota bakkie and a blue Toyota Conquest.
