An SAPS captain has taken her bosses to the Labour Court in Johannesburg after she was twice overlooked for a position, apparently because she is white.
Dressed in a pink suit, captain Renate Barnard stood outside court 5 in Braamfontein ahead of her case on Monday morning.
She believes she was denied the post of superintendent within the SAPS' priority and ordinary complaints unit because of her skin colour.
In court papers filed by her lawyers, Barnard said she was the right candidate for the job and that the interview panel had rated her highly among the candidates she contested the position with.

Despite the panel identifying her as having a high level of commitment towards the SAPS and saying she had displayed eagerness to contribute towards enhanced service delivery, the post was frozen in 2005 and again in 2006, because appointing Barnard would not have promoted racial representation. - Sapa
