 Dube killers get life behind bars

Three men convicted of killing reggae icon Lucky Dube were this morning sentenced to life in prison.

Sifiso Mhlanga, 34, Julius Ngxowa, 32 and Mbuti Mabe, 31, were also sentenced to 15 years each for attempting to rob Dube's vehicle. The three were further sentenced to 18 years each for the robbery of Simphiwe Mlaba's Mercedes Benz two days after killing Dube in October 2007.

Mabe was further sentenced to 18 years for the robbery of Melisa-Ann Mallworth's Polo Player on October 13 2007, which was used as a getaway vehicle during the murder of Dube five days later.

Mhlanga and Ngxowa were further sentenced to five years for possession of two guns, including the murder weapon. Mhlanga was further sentenced to two years for illegal possession of ammunition.

Johannesburg High Court Judge Seun Moshidi declared all of them unfit to possess firearms.
