Thousands of construction workers were protesting outside building sites in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday morning demanding better pay.
By 9am, workers were protesting peacefully outside the Moses Mabhida Stadium as they were monitored by a few SA Police Service members and stadium security guards.
Speaking outside the stadium, National Union of Mineworkers' (NUM) Thabo Mavuso said they would protest the whole day.
"We will obviously stop if the meeting in Johannesburg produces good results," he said.
The meeting would be attended by Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana, 2010 Local Organising Committee members and the SA Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors.
It would be held at the offices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration.
