Children playing at the Hillview Farm in East London found a skeleton in bushes on the farm, police said on Tuesday.

Captain Stephen Marais said police were called to the Hillview Farm on Marine Drive in East London on Monday.

"It was alleged that the children were playing in the bushes near the house and were on their way to a dam when they stumbled on what seemed to them like a skeleton," he said.

They told adults on the farm about their find on Saturday, but were thought to be lying.

On Monday a friend of one of the children went to investigate and the police were called to the scene.

Marais said police found a headless skeleton in the bushes with blue trousers, black safety boots and some dreadlocked hair.

"Police are of the opinion that the skeleton might be that of a male, but the remains were taken to the government mortuary for further investigation." - Sapa
