A Durban woman has been awarded R3 000, a free spa treatment and an apology from a beauty therapist who said her spa did not cater for black people.

Sophie Crouse approached the Equality Court last month after she went to the Queensburgh spa to treat herself and her child to a "mother-daughter activity".

In her affidavit filed with the court, Crouse said she went to the Beauty and Bridal spa after receiving a brochure at her home.

She was met by beauty therapist Anisha Gayapersad, who said that she did not cater for black people.

Such a pity that this article is so incomplete. It makes it sound very much like the beautician was racist, especially if you haven't read the original article which clearly pointed out that the beautician in fact only said that the particular treatment that they wanted wouldn't work for black people. Because of the natural state of their hair. Why do people always look for sensation and stir the whole racial issue? Especially journalists
