A Durban man who was rescued after spending more than a day lost in the mountains above Simon's Town got the chance to meet his saviour yesterday - and to give the plucky hero, a dog named Luke, a grateful pat.

Pastor Simon Gasa, 74, was visiting Cape Town with a church group when he went for a walk in Simon's Town on Friday, but failed to return.

On Saturday morning, a police dog named Luke was taken to the point from which Gasa started his walk. He sniffed one of the minister's handkerchiefs and immediately set off into the mountains. The dog found Gasa about an hour and a half later.
