Two women were killed in a drive-by shooting in Lotus River in Cape Town, Western Cape police said on Monday.

Occupants of a white Ford Bantam bakkie opened fire on a shebeen late on Sunday night, spokesman Inspector Ian Leibowitz said.

"Both victims sustained gunshot wounds to their heads and were lying in the entrance of the house."

The shebeen was notorious for drug-related activities, Leibowitz said. The women have been identified as Heidi Baarde, 22, and Jessica Amos, 32. Both were working at the shebeen and lived on the premises.
