An elderly couple have been robbed at gunpoint in a newly bought home in Freeland Park, on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.

Captain Vincent Pandaram, a police spokesman, said: "It is alleged that the couple were asleep on Sunday when they were rudely awakened by three men, one of whom was armed with a gun."

He said the couple had been robbed of money, a cellphone, photographic equipment and jewellery.

"The woman is 69 years old and the man's age is unknown, but he is retired," he said, adding that the couple had moved into their new home five days before the attack. They were unharmed. - Sapa
