A gardener, who intends pleading not guilty to murdering his employer's wife, on Monday admitted in the Pretoria High Court that he hit Cordelia Prinsloo, 56, with a spade in October.
Lucas Noto Moloi, 33, said he did not intend killing her, as she was "not a bad person to me", but did it for the R50 000 and house allegedly offered to him by Prinsloo's former husband Cobus Prinsloo, 62.
Bail applications have been brought by Moloi, of Qwa Qwa in the Free State, and Prinsloo, from Montana Park in Pretoria. They are charged with murder.
Moloi testified that the Prinsloos, who were divorced, stayed in separate houses on a smallholding in Buffelsdrift, outside Pretoria. Prinsloo also has a house in Montana Park.

He claimed that Prinsloo asked him in September to kill his wife.
He testified that they planned the murder together for October 5, but that it did not go ahead as scheduled because the domestic worker needed him to fetch her from a shop that day.
Four days later, Prinsloo allegedly told him they should cut the property's fence so Moloi could call his wife and attack her.
On October 12, Moloi showed the woman the hole in the fence. "I hit her with the spade when she looked at it," he said.
He put the body next to a flower bed, saying Prinsloo had told him not to rape Cordelia or take her car, but to let him know so that he could "throw it (the body) away".
That night, Prinsloo allegedly went to Moloi's room and asked where the body was. He also gave the gardener a firearm and R500, telling him to go to his Free State home and change his SIM card.
Moloi said that when he heard police were looking for him, he was afraid as he knew he would never get employment again.
After his arrest, he pointed certain things out on the scene, but said the wheelbarrow and spade were missing. He also made a confession in front of a magistrate.
Moloi admitted that when he left the smallholding, he took his pregnant girlfriend and possessions. "I left for good, thinking my life would change when I get the money," he said.
The bail application continues on Tuesday. - Sapa
