The case against Orlando Pirates soccer star Gert Schalkwyk was withdrawn by the State on a technicality in the Westonaria Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, a court official said.

"There were problems in that... there was no certificate from the director of public prosecutions authorising such footage," said the official. "This was a technical problem," he said.

The 27-year-old midfielder was caught last month allegedly driving at 198km/h on the N12 freeway in Gauteng and was charged for reckless driving. - Sapa
