A man who tried to free three friends from Jabulani police station was arrested on charges of bribery, Gauteng police said on Friday.

The man approached a warrant officer at Jabulani and allegedly offered him R1 000 in exchange for letting the three men free, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said.

The policeman refused and the man was arrested for bribery.

The three men were arrested for stealing computers and pirating CDs in Soweto on Friday.

All in their late twenties, they were arrested at a house in Zola, south-west of Johannesburg.

Police found five stolen computers and hundreds of CDs which had been copied.

They will appear in Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of theft, possession of stolen property and fraud.
