ANC Youth League (ANCYL) President Julius Malema has vowed that the youth of South Africa would die in supporting ANC President Jacob Zuma.

"We are prepared to die for Zuma," Malema told a Free State rally. "We are prepared to take up arms and kill for Zuma," Malema added at the end of his speech, while the crowd clapped hands and laughed.

Earlier, Malema said there was no question that the ANC president would be the country's next president. He added that those who did not respect the current ANC leadership should go.

Malema said those in the party who have indicated that they would not be available for positions in the new government, under Zuma, should not wait but leave now.

He also reiterated that the Scorpions case against Zuma, expected to begin later this year in the Pietermaritzburg High Court, should be dropped.

"The future belongs to us. We do not want a situation where the state prosecutes its own president," Malema said.

He said the ANCYL was planning to assemble a legal team to try to get the case against Zuma thrown out of court.

It is a sad day when people liberated from oppression choose to use militant statements, to impose their will on others and are willing to use the very oppressive methods that kept this country in bondage and slavery for so long. The ANCYL leadership undermine the valiant and noble contributions and ultimate sacrifices made by our brothers and sisters( of all race groups) to deliver us from the evil of Apartheid. To top it all no senior ANC official/s has come out in public to denounce this hateful and irresponsible statements.

I think, Comrade Malema should apologise for being qouted out of context. In my language (Xhosa) it figurative when you say, you can kill for something - it does not literally mean that, you can pull a trigger a shoot somebody and that is the context in which i understand our young lion. Of course its not that critics do not understand this but they have obtained an opportunity expedient enough for them to grind Malema. "Tell no lies, claim no easy victories".The critics that have jumped out of the podium and started lambasting Malema are amongs the main JZ critics, Vincent D. in Cape is one of them. In the circumstances it is difficult to get an honest and an objective opinion from these people.

I have never been so embarrased by a young man, who was voted into power by his fellow peers. Not only is he encouraging violence, he wants to disband Umsobomvu Youth Fund, Youth Commission and Lembede Investments. What utter rubbish!!! These three organisations assist the youth in ways in which the ANCYL cannot, or rather are unable to. I am dissapointed that we have someone who still believes in violence when we cannot solve a problem. Could Comrade Malema concentrate on the youth, and let justice take its course!!! He is the reason why the media and the rest of South Africa think that our movement is in disrepute. As the youth (22), we have other problems, and going into war with the justice system will not give us jobs! Let alone if he disbands the Youth Commission,Umsobomvu Youth Fund.I am part of the movement and I will not go into war because I am led by spoilt brat.

Malema should realise that his remarks discredit Zuma even further. Any leader worthy of being the President of the Republic should display due loyalty to democratic value and should not hesitate to distance him or herself from such views. I agree that this is an embarrassment to both the youth and the ANC. It is an embarrassment to the democratic values that great and compassionate leaders such as Madiba and Tutu, as well as (I would like to think/hope) the majority of South Africans, have stived for and hold dear.

What an irresponsible and dangerous comment from someone who's suppose to lead by example and be an inspiration to the 'lost' generation. This shows the decaying state our political landscape is in and calls for something to be done soon. Our leaders are too much in a comfort zone and this im inclined to believe is mainly because there is no real vibrant opposition or threat insight.Malema should remember that as the governing party's youth league leader, he represents the entire nation's youth and should behave accordingly.

I listened to the idiocy on a talk show this morning. Other than being unable to communicate verbally he contradicted himself non-stop. His professes that he will stand by any court decision made on Zuma's corruption trial however... it appears that he will only stand by it if Zuma is found innocent. Who does he believe he is to take upon himself the decision to revoke the constitution, the court system and the country's democracy. . . and to make it worse to do it in the name of a man who is yet to prove himself other than being morally, ethically and financially inept of dealing with his own problems never mind being brought "via arms" in to power and to manage a 48 million people trying to get ahead. I am certain that Julius whatshisname should be arrested for conspiracy to murder and inctement of violence.

Utterances like this are indeed very dissapointing from our so called leaders. These will in noway unify the party but create more divisions. I am always dissapointed whenever there are these so called commemorations, workshops, anniversarsies or any other political gatherings. All that seems to happen is people talk a whole lot of rubbish which does not help anyone and go and drown their sorrows in alcohola after that. I know this does not really relate to the topic at hand but for instance yesterday after all the youth day celebrations there were parties all over the place with these so called leaders indulging in alcohol and we all know where the money comes from. Somehow I don't think we really respect those who passed in the struggle.

These "maniac leaders" are elected from within their own orginisation. They therefore represent their orginisations agenda. Has nobody any brains left? This kind of speach is a HATE SPEECH and cannot be tolerated, When these "leaders" make statements like this and there is no outcry from inside their orginisation one can only assume that this is the orginisations agenda.

It is downright nauseating that a leader within the ruling party has the audacity to make such utterances. Regardless of the Youth League's so-called autonomy, their conduct has a direct bearing on public perception of the ANC now and in future. After all, they are regarded as the kingmakers. Malema should be publicly chastised for bringing the party into disrepute. Such loose pronouncements on violence could easily be misinterpreted as an endorsement of violence in general. In the wake of the xenophobic attacks, this country cannot afford such immature conduct from our leaders!

It is amasing how shallow people can be. I was under the impression that although things are difficult at present, we are supposed to be the "rainbow" nation. Comments like these made by this young man, who I am sure was still a very young boy in 1994, has not got first-hand experience of the "apartheid" era. Everything he stands for at present revolves about destroying everything and everybody that does not conform to his and his sort's idiology. "The night of the long knives" was a concept that I did not see as a real threat but with this man at the helm of such an important political group, this might just become reality. I am sure that should the ANC value their country and its people, something should be done to curtail people from saying things that has no real value for the growth, safety and prosperity of South Africa.
